About the Owner
Maxwell J. Smith is the Owner and Director of MJS Security Services and brings over 14 years of experience in security operations, leadership, and public safety. His background includes direct command and oversight of patrol operations, K-9 handling and training, security planning, risk assessment, and special protective services. Smith’s leadership style is centered on hands-on involvement, direct oversight, accountability, and maintaining high operational standards across all levels of the company.
Smith has completed both law enforcement and private security weapons training, providing a strong foundation in defensive tactics, use-of-force decision-making, lawful operational practices, professional de-escalation, and Verbal Judo techniques. He has also completed mental health awareness training, further strengthening his ability to professionally manage crisis situations, emotionally disturbed persons, and high-stress encounters with calmness and sound judgment.
In addition to his security background, Smith also serves as a firefighter, further expanding his experience in emergency response, public safety operations, teamwork, and crisis management. His combined background in security and emergency services contributes to a well-rounded and practical approach to leadership and field operations.
Smith remains actively involved in daily operations, supervision, training, and field response while continuing to expand the company’s K-9 program. An active K-9 handler and trainer, he is currently developing his second K-9 partner, K-9 Kirk, a Dutch Shepherd.
His operational philosophy emphasizes professionalism, controlled response, preparedness, accountability, and consistency in all aspects of security operations. Through ongoing training, professional development, and active field involvement, Smith maintains a strong commitment to readiness, leadership, and delivering professional security services throughout the State of Maine.
